RELIABLE Machine Company was established in 1921 in Rockford, Illinois. It originated as a tool and die shop that created devices used to shape metal for stamping production and assembly. Today, the company serves as a production shop, manufacturing parts, rather than building tools.
Horst "Dutch" Stuhr learned the tool and die trade as an apprentice in his birthplace of Hamburg, Germany.
In 1951, at the age of 17, Dutch immigrated to the United States. He brought with him $17 in his pocket and a vision for what is now known as RELIABLE: leading metal stamping specialists.
In 1964, after serving in the U.S. Army for two years, Dutch became a partner in RELIABLE Machine Company. At the time, RELIABLE consisted only of six tool and die employees, all of whom were partners.
By 1971, Dutch had bought out the last remaining partner at RELIABLE and became the sole owner of the company. He then set out to change the identity of RELIABLE Machine Company from a tool and die shop to a manufacturing production shop. This conversion was completed in 1972, and the company has been evolving ever since.
In April, 1996, RELIABLE began its third expansion to accommodate the heavy tonnage presses required for new business. The 22,000 square foot expansion increased warehouse and manufacturing space to make a home for the newest and biggest machine at RELIABLE: a 600 ton Bliss mechanical punch press.
By 2002, RELIABLE completed its fourth expansion by purchasing Plant 3, increasing its operations to 150,000 square feet.
Today, RELIABLE Machine Company is a 100% contract manufacturer that prides itself on maintaining strong, attentive relationships with its customers.
We are a custom manufacturer of metal stampings and assemblies, providing deburring, drilling and tapping capabilities, along with other secondary operations.
